Irritable Bowel Syndrome
IBS is a disorder that affects the large intestine which causes cramping, abdominal pain, gas, diarrhea, constipation and bloating
Hormone Imbalance
Hormones are chemical messengers in the body that controls and regulates the activity of certain cells and organs. Some of the activities of hormones include digestion, metabolism, sensory perception, sleep, respiration, stress, growth, mood and more. Hormone imbalances can be caused by age, genetic disorders, environmental toxins and diseases, which causes a disruption in your body's natural rhythm.
Thyroid Imbalance
The thyroid gland, which is shaped like a butterfly, is located in the front of your neck and is the controller of metabolism for the body. The thyroid gland produces hormones which enable every cell of your body to produce and use energy. If the thyroid gland is underactive, then the end result is a slowing of your metabolism. The thyroid also works with the rest of your ‘hormone symphony’ to regulate wellness and optimal health.
Having thyroid hormonal imbalances carry distressing symptoms like having fatigue, low energy, low mood, menstrual problems for women, muscle and/or joint pains, having diarrhea and/or constipation, having low heart rate and/or palpitations, having trouble waking up and/or falling asleep, among others.
Adrenal Fatigue
Your adrenal glands, which are the size of walnuts and located on top of the kidneys, are your stress organs. The hormones secreted by the adrenal glands enable you to deal with stress caused by allergies, hormonal imbalances, low thyroid, injury or difficult life experiences. The chronic stress that many people experience on an ongoing basis in today's fast-paced society may cause adrenal fatigue. When your adrenal glands become exhausted, your natural cortisol levels drop significantly. Cortisol is your naturally occurring stress hormone.
The adrenal glands also produce dihydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). This hormone enhances brain function, muscle tone and libido. Additionally, the adrenal glands produce pregnenolone. Pregnenolone is the building block of all the adrenal hormones and exerts a powerful effect on the brain, enhancing memory. Both of these hormones decline as we age.
Menopausal & Peri-menopausal Transition
Menopause marks a transition in mind, body and spirit. Developing your unique path to success through this transition is our passion for you. You personal story and unique symptom presentation will be combined with advanced hormone analysis to guide treatment recommendations to balance your hormones. We analyze your hormone symphony to bring harmony for this new phase of life.
Osteoporosis/Osteopenia
Osteoporosis is a very common disease of the bone characterized by a decrease in bone mineral density and increase risk of fractures. Early detection provides a means of intervention to markedly reduce the potential of any fracture or height loss due to spinal bone loss. Proper nutrition, optimal Vitamin D levels, exercise and hormonal evaluation are necessary for preventing the onset of osteoporosis. Osteopenia is a precursor to osteoporosis and needs to be aggressively treated to prevent progression to Osteoporosis.
Food Sensitivities/Airborne Allergies/Optimal Weight Management
Are the foods you eat making you overweight and sick? Is the air you breath or the environment where you live making you feel toxic? We utilize advanced RAST blood testing (no skin prick testing) for food sensitivities and airborne allergies. We are able to pinpoint the foods your body does not do well with and we will develop a personalized nutrition plan (not a diet) that will provide more energy, decrease inflammation and allow optimal hormone metabolism. Our sublingual allergy drops provide the European model used for 50 years in treating airborne allergies for desensitization if needed (no more shots!)
Yeast Infection/Candida
Candida overgrowth is a very common source of many other problems. Recurrent infections, inflammation, mood, fatigue, carbohydrate craving/weight gain, low blood sugar, insomnia, poor concentration, migraines and many other common problems are driven by this seemingly unrelated problem. Finding balance of the yeast to natural flora is the key to success. Our effective therapies focus on balancing the yeast infection naturally and preventing its overgrowth.
Menstrual Disorders/Irregular Menstruation/PMS
Many women have irregular menstrual cycles and abnormal menstrual bleeding. The normal 28-day cycle can have variability by a few days with only minimal bleeding or cramping to completely irregular cycle with multiple days of bleeding with heavy flow and cramps. If your periods are irregular or marked by heavy flow or lasts a long time, you likely have an underlying imbalance that can be corrected. A woman should be in balance with mind, body and spirit and our goal is to help bring balance and regularity to your cycle.
PMS involves the relationship of hormonal and lifestyle factors and can affect all aspects of a woman’s life. Every woman has a unique experience and we work together to create an individualized treatment plan focusing on symptom relief and restoring balance. The goal is to restore a healthy rhythm to the monthly fluctuation and providing a holistic approach to symptom control.
Interstitial Cystitis
Interstitial cystitis is a cluster of symptoms similar to urinary tract infections, such as urinary burning, urgency and frequency in the absence of infection. There are no good medical therapies for this problem and most of the clients we see come in very frustrated with this difficult problem because they have suffered many years, undergone invasive procedures and used multiple medications without success. By utilizing an Integrative Medicine approach delivered in a caring and holistic way, we seek to eliminate the causes of Interstitial Cystitis and not just treat the symptoms. We are successful in this approach by focusing on the root cause of the problem, while also providing symptom relief that focuses on decreasing inflammation and increasing the mucosal integrity of the bladder.
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
PCOS is a complicated condition that is poorly understood in the medical model and most women are only partially treated. A constellation of symptoms such as irregular menstruation, acne, excess hair growth, obesity and ovarian cysts is common. Every woman has a unique presentation and personal story that we listen to for answers utilizing multiple modalities of Integrative Medicine delivered in a personalized and holistic manner. We are experts in nutritional therapy, herbal remedies, lifestyle modifications and medications if needed to restore balance, reduce symptoms of PCOS and treat the underlying cause for long-term success.
Fibrocystic Breasts
Breasts with multiple nodules or lumps that may become painful characterize fibrocystic breasts. Pain is typically increased prior to menstruation. An imbalance in estrogen and progesterone known as Estrogen Dominance is common and easily restored. Lifestyle and nutritional influences can markedly affect the symptoms a woman may experience. The Women’s Clinic will work with you to promote hormonal balance to reduce the discomfort and potential risk of fibrocystic breasts.
Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a common condition characterized by pelvic pain, pain with intercourse and infertility. This occurs when uterine tissue (also called endometrial tissue) is found outside the uterus. Symptoms may be mild, yet many women suffer markedly with this condition. The Women’s Clinic focuses on the entire endocrine system in approaching women with endometriosis. There are successful strategies not involving surgery to free women from this discomfort permanently.
