Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired?
The relationship of the thyroid and adrenals glands is the key to health for men and women.
Is 98.6 really a normal temperature?
There are over 100 million people (mostly women) that are undiagnosed as having low thyroid function. Go to our website to see our Health Quizzes and take your own Thyroid Quiz to see if your symptoms match those of low thyroid; feeling cold often, low energy, poor sleep, inability to lose weight, menstrual problems, blood sugar problems, menopause symptoms, low mood or depression are just a few of the many signs of low thyroid.
The Adrenal gland is your flight or fight hormone factory, which affects cortisol levels and can mimic thyroid and other hormone problems. For men, after age 50, most of the body’s testosterone is from the adrenals, so that is why we call it Andropause or Manopause.
For women, PMS and Menopause can be greatly affected by the balance of the thyroid and the adrenal as there is such an intricate symphony of hormones-for a woman to feel optimal she must be in harmony. You can not just watch the conductor-test the TSH- you must observe each member of the symphony- T4 and T3 and cortisol/dhea/estrogen/progesterone. There is an intricate dance to achieve optimal vitality for a woman and being in the so called “normal range” is not nearly good enough. Normal in America today is diabetic and obese, and we cannot allow women to fall into this trap.
Cortisol is such a misunderstood member of this symphony and both low and high cortisol can cause weight problems, acne, blood sugar lows or highs as well as sleep and PMS/menopause problems. We call this the ‘cortisol steal’ and your body demands cortisol/adrenaline at the expense of every other hormone. Once this has set in, the women’s symphony is out of balance and you just don’t feel right, instead you feel sick and tired.
For men, there will be suboptimal testosterone levels and that sense of vitality and ability to achieve optimal body muscle/mass index is compromised. Libido is part of this, yet it is really the last of multiple symptoms of low hormones. Both men and women need testosterone levels to be optimal for self confidence, inner confidence and recovery from workouts and stress.
